Comm. James Dutton

Born and raised in Griffin Georgia, Commissioner Dutton is deeply invested in this community. After graduation from Griffin High School in 2000, Commissioner Dutton continued his education at Gordon State College where he had been joint enrolled since 1998. After graduating from Gordon, James continued his college career at Georgia State University in Atlanta where he later graduated summa cum laude with a degree in economics with concentrations in healthcare economics, public sector economics, and human resource economics and a minor in urban policy studies with a concentration therein in nonprofit leadership. While expected to continue on to study for a PhD in international economics, Commissioner Dutton instead choose to attend GSU College of Law attaining a Juris Doctorate. During this time, he also once again joint enrolled at the GSU Andrew Young School of Policy Studies where he received a Masters in Public Administration. Commissioner Dutton is married to his lovely wife, Kristen, and they both have their own firms, hers a CPA tax firm and he a law firm, here in downtown Griffin. Together they have two wonderful children, Elizabeth and Ty. Commissioner Dutton actively volunteers in the Spalding County area. He serves as a scout master with troop 14 and as a member of many civic and fraternal organizations such as the Kiwanis Club of Griffin, the Ringgold Masonic Lodge, the Griffin York Rite, the Griffin Historical Society, and the Griffin Knights Templar Commandary. Commissioner Dutton is also a leader in the Spalding County Bar Association and serves, along with his mother, as the two coaches of the award winning Spalding County Model United Nations team. Commissioner Dutton also serves as a boy’s youth minister at his church, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
